About this place
Climbing the stairs to the 2th floor near Itabashi Station brings you into Newa Kitchen, a Nepalese and Indian restaurant filled with the warm, spiced aromas of authentic home cooking and a relaxed, unpretentious atmosphere. The first thing to order here is one of the thali sets, which arrive as a colourful platter centered around dal lentil soup, rich curry, and an assortment of vegetable side dishes. The popular Special Thali Set comes with a small dish of ghee on the side; drizzling it over the firmly cooked rice and gentle dal brings a mellow depth that rounds out the spices beautifully. Mixing the mild, ungreasy curries and spiced vegetable bites little by little captures the true charm of a Nepalese-style meal.
Beyond its hearty set meals, the restaurant also excels at à la carte dishes made to accompany a drink. Skewered sekuwa—meat marinated in spices and grilled over charcoal—is available in mutton, chicken, or pork, delivering concentrated savouriness and deep smokiness that pair naturally with beer. Another favourite is choila, a spicy tossed meat dish packed with punchy seasonings that stimulate the appetite. Between 17:00 and 19:00, an evening happy hour offers draft beer, sours, and highballs at appealing prices, making it easy to drop in early for a relaxed drink over skewers.
Familiar Indian-style curry sets are equally well considered, with options ranging from butter chicken and saag to keema egg. The large plain naan can be upgraded to rich cheese naan for an additional fee, and sets include refills alongside drinks like lassi or hot spiced chiya tea after the meal. With comfortable table seating in an easygoing space, it suits everything from a casual midday lunch to an evening spent exploring spices over drinks.
